Four men who allegedly killed a woman by slashing open her stomach, ripping out her intestines and placing a rock in the cavity appeared briefly in the Kimberley magistrate's court this week.
The body of Lettie "Gogo" Wabad, 24, of Galeshewe, Kimberley, was found partly naked behind her aunt's house.
Police said Wabad was killed between late last Friday and early Saturday morning.
"Police were called by community members who were going to a funeral," said Captain Tony Modise.
Outraged community members, church leaders and relatives packed the tiny court room to catch a glimpse of the four alleged killers. Relatives called on the government to reinstate the death penalty.
Hilda Swaart, Wabad's mother, said their hearts were bleeding.
"We just buried her aunt on Human Rights Day (March 21) . She was also murdered," said Swaart.
The case was held behind closed doors because one of the accused is a minor. They will only be named after they have applied for bail.
