A group of armed and masked men robbed a Photocats electronic shop yesterday in Bruma in Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said an unknown number of men, wearing balaclavas and armed with pistols and rifles, tied up the security guard on the premises.

The gang then broke through the glass and roller doors of the shop and loaded electronic goods worth an undisclosed value into a van and a VW Golf.

The men fired shots randomly outside the shop. Police found 12 empty cartridges of different calibres on the scene.

No one was shot but the security guard sustained injuries after being assaulted by the robbers.

The security guard managed to untie himself after the men had fled.

Police would use video footage of the robbery from the shop's cameras as part of their investigation. A case of business robbery was opened. No arrests had been made, said Mavundla. - Sapa
