The ANC general secretary complained on national radio that when Cope members killed members of his party, that was not news.

Instead, Mantashe said, the media painted a picture where the ANC was always shown as the aggressor whose members were bent on disrupting Cope meetings.

He cited a case where an ANC member was allegedly killed in Limpopo after he had reported members of the Cope who were tearing down his party's election posters.

Cope has vehemently denied this, accusing Mantashe of making inflammatory statements on national radio.

It is a responsibility of all political parties to ensure that their supporters do not breach the electoral code - of which they are signatories.
