The second day of Safa's Metropolitan under-19 national championships at Cato Manor sports ground in Durban yesterday was characterised by surprises.

Limpopo, who lost all their matches in their own backyard in last year's instalment, beat hosts KwaZulu-Natal 3-1.

Limpopo's goals came from Fanisa Mathebula and Abram Mogano and a Bongani Mlaba own goal. Nikon Mvuyane scored for KwaZulu-Natal.

In another surprise result Northern Cape, who were still smarting from their 3-2 defeat by KZN, beat the not so impressive Free State 1-0 through Mckenzie McGurnon's solitary goal.

Defending champions Gauteng started their campaign on a positive note when they beat Eastern Cape 2-0.

Western Cape beat last year's runner-up North West 1-0.
