Lions coach Eugene Eloff believes his side still has a chance to earn a semifinals place in the Super 14 competition.

The Lions are sitting at second from last on the log after losing four of their six games, including a 32-38 loss to the Hurricanes at Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday.

"We are now focusing on our tour Down Under and hope to secure good results to improve our position on the log," said Eloff.

The Doornfontein side leaves today for their date with the Chiefs at Hamilton on Saturday.

Lions' scorers: Try - Jacque Fourie (2), Todd Clever, Shandre' Frolick with Andre Pretorius adding three conversions and two penalties.

Other results: Sharks 35, Brumbies 14; Chiefs 50, Reds 26; Crusaders 11, Stormers 7; Highlanders 36, Bulls 12; Waratahs 27, Blues 22.
