The staging of the 2009 DLF Indian Premier League was further confirmation of South Africa's ability to host major global sports activities.

This is how Danny Jordaan, the Local Organising Committee's chief executive officer, congratulated Cricket South Africa for being chosen to host event.

Featuring the world's best cricketers, the tournament takes place in six cities from April 18 to 24 May 24 2009 after it needed to be moved from India due to security reasons.

CSA have less than a month to host the 59-game tournament and Jordaan is confident that its chief executive officer, Gerald Majola, and company will make the country proud.

"Some of the world's biggest cricketing stars will be here showcasing again our country's world-class facilities and love for high-quality sporting entertainment.

"With the Fifa Confederations Cup 2009 taking place soon thereafter in June, the South African public are in for a real bonanza of great sporting action," said Jordaan.

IPL organisers said South Africa's successful staging of the inaugural 20/20 Cricket World Cup in 2007 was a major contributing factor to the decision to stage the event here.

l Jordaan yesterday gave the Union of European Football congress in Copenhagen, Denmark, a comprehensive update on the 2010 World Cup preparations.

At the invitation of confederation president Michel Platini, Jordaan assured Uefa member associations at the congress that South Africa's 2010 Fifa World Cup stadiums were on course to be completed by October this year, in line with its Fifa deadlines.
