GREAT LOSS TO TELEVISION

Staff Reporter

Staff Reporter

The entertainment industry is in shock following the death of veteran TV and stage actor Jacob Makgale Mahopo.

The talented actor died on Monday at his Dobsonville, Soweto, home after a battle with throat cancer.

He acted in Bophelo ke Semphekgo, Di milione tsa Kiriri, The Lab and Muvhango among other television dramas.

Reacting to the news last night, renowned actress Lillian Dube, who stared alongside Mahopo in many Sesotho TV dramas, said she was shocked.

"Mahopo was one of the most talented actors I have worked with. It is a great loss to the industry. The country needed his talent. He would have continued to impart his rich knowledge from his TV and stage experience to up-coming artists," said a distraught Dube.

At the time of his death, Mahopo was the deputy director at the national botanical gardens, his younger brother Gibson Mahopo said.

Mahopo will be buried on Saturday.

The service will be held at 10685 Gobuapelo Street, Ext 3, Dobsonville, at 10am. The cortege will leave for Lenasia Cemetery at 12.30pm.
