With the credit crunch in full swing, what foods should I buy to save money and stay healthy?
Baked products and cereals are inexpensive and give great variety to one's diet, but watch out for the processed ones. Enriched cereals are healthier. Manufacturers "restore" the processed food by adding vitamins and minerals that naturally occur in the product. Cereals should also be fortified, which means that one or more ingredients are added to provide nutrients that are not naturally present.
Check for the words "enriched" or "fortified" on labels of baked products and processed cereals. Remember, unprocessed cereals contain more vitamins, minerals and fiber.
