SUSPENDED FINE FOR BUCCANEERS

Orlando Pirates have been slapped with a R200000 fine, suspended for 12 months, by the PSL's disciplinary committee for misconduct after their overzealous spectators invaded the pitch at Ellis Park Stadium earlier this month.

Orlando Pirates have been slapped with a R200000 fine, suspended for 12 months, by the PSL's disciplinary committee for misconduct after their overzealous spectators invaded the pitch at Ellis Park Stadium earlier this month.

The incident took place after their Absa Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns, which Bucs won 2-0.

The Buccaneers pleaded guilty to the charge when they appeared before the DC on Monday night.

Zola Majavu, the leagues prosecutor, confirmed the fine. He said Pirates were also ordered to pay the costs of the hearing, which amounted to about R21000.

The DC also ordered them to send a written apology to the PSL and to apologise on a minimum of six radio stations. - Sowetan
