Once again music lovers, forever intent on supporting the arts and those that have been caught in the substance abuse quagmire, will gather at Carnival City.
The occasion will be the 10th yearly Musicians and Artists Assistance Programme of South Africa (Maapsa) Carnival City Benefit Concert 2009, in Brakpan on Saturday.
Ready to set the stage ablaze with scintillating music are Hugh Masekela, Thandiswa Mazwai, and the Jaziel Brothers.
Masekela, who is the founding member of Maapsa, will not only be spreading the message but will also be celebrating his 70th birthday. What will add to the excitement is the fact that he will be unleashing the vibey repertoire from his new offering, Phola.
Also showcasing her brand- new CD is Thandiswa. She has just launched Ibokwe, whose umbilical chord is firmly tied to the ancestral spirits.
As for the smooth and soulful Jaziel Brothers, they are the new kids on the block who have turned the industry inside out. Their music is catchy, inducing sing-alongs that should have the audience on their feet on the night.
The Drakensberg Promotions-presented concert is supported by Gauteng and the Department of Social Development.
Bheki Sibeko, head of the Department of Social Development, said: "We are proud to be associated with this worthwhile concert, and to support Maapsa in its brave effort to fight drug abuse in the entertainment industry."
Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets are sold at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers.
No tickets will be sold at the door.
