As the 25-year-old caretaker from a Pietermaritzburg school appears in the Pietermaritzburg magistrate's court facing charges of raping an 8-year-old pupil on the school premises, a provincial parent body called on the community to oppose bail for the suspect.
The child was raped last week.
KwaZulu-Natal Parent's Association chairperson Fayed Rajack said the crime was a schedule six offence and the community must speak out.
Rajack said it was also important for the community to demand today that the court not be lenient in this case.
"We need an overhaul of the entire judicial system to make sure rapists are held behind bars."
