There is a definite boost in morale in the dealer world.
There's a significant cheer on the faces of sales executives and it could be that despite the negative stats in car buying, buyers are steadily returning to dealer floors, enquiring about this and that, showing an interest in cars and many more going through the motions of purchasing a vehicle.
Regardless of one's feeling about the National Credit Act, it has been a life- saving bitter pill, and the powers-that-be deserve a pat on the back for that.
However, there is a flip side to every coin. There are still too many dealers who don't seem to grasp that change is needed to survive in these depressing times; transformation of not only business systems but past perspectives.
I came across a report saying that this week a day will be set aside for "Take a boy child to work" campaign.
My plea is that the automotive sector should be actively involved. There's a serious shortage of technicians and to an extent, at dealer level where the merry-go-round of young black men moving to new dealerships every month needs to be addressed, and this day could be a launching pad for solutions.
