Clinic upsets Manto

Minister in the Presidency Manto Tshabalala-Msimang has reprimanded Thokoza Clinic nurses for their lack of commitment to the community.

Tshabalala-Msimang was in the township to campaign for the ANC and to pay homage to those who died during the 1990s violence in the area.

Speaking at the Thokoza Memorial site, she said she would return to the township to address the shabby treatment residents receive at the local clinic.

"I am no longer the minister of health but I am still not happy with the treatment our people get at the clinic, especially the elderly."

During her door-to-door campaign, Tshabalala-Msimang was saddened by the plight of a woman whose wound had not healed because of poor treatment at the clinic.

"I have never seen anything like this before," she said. "The woman told me she has had this sore for seven years that has not been treated.

"Each time she goes to the clinic she is told that there is no medicine.

"The clinic closes at 11am and sometimes when patients come they are told by some nurses that they should wait because they [the nurses] are still drinking tea."
