Santos rely on home advantage

If home-ground advantage worked for Maritzburg United when they beat Santos 1-0 in a league game last Saturday then this time around it will be in favour of the People's Team.

These were the words of Santos captain Mogogi Gabonamong ahead of their Nedbank Cup last 16 match against United billed for Athlone Stadium tonight at 8.

"It is a cup game and the approach for cup games is always different. We had the opportunity to see how they play last weekend, so we will be better prepared this time. We will beat them," Gabonamong said yesterday.

The People's Team will pin their hopes on the likes of Wayne Roberts, Bonginkosi Macala, Musa Otieno, Tyren Arendse and Eleazar Rogers to defeat United.

United's lethal striker Fadlu Davids admits that it will be a tough assignment because Santos will be out to avenge last weekend's defeat.

"This will be totally a different game because we all want to advance to the next stage. We are fired up for this encounter and victory is certain," said Davids who is expected to partner Ivory Coast international Brice Aka upfront.

The Team of Choice's winning chances will be enhanced by Elias Ngwepe, Peter Petersen and Sipho Mngomezulu.

l In another cup match billed for tomorrow, Bay United will host National First Division side Black Leopards at East London Stadium at 3pm.

Interestingly both teams are in the basement of their different logs.

l Ikapa Sporting engage Winners Park at Cape Town's Erica Park tomorrow.
