Africa's finest young minds will take part in the third African Schools Debating Championships at St John's College in Johannesburg from April 14 to 21.
It is sponsored by the Umsobomvu Youth Fund, FNB and St John's College. This premier youth dialogue event was launched in 2006, with the inaugural tournament taking place in 2007.
It serves as a platform on which young Africans learn the skills of critical engagement, leadership and African democracy. It will feature 20 countries, among them Nigeria, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Malawi and South Africa.
An additional attraction is the National Debating Invitational, featuring 16 of South Africa's top debating schools, drawn from both public and private schools, competing for the ASDC Schools Cup. Speakers lined up for the first day of the event include Judge Edwin Cameron and Deputy Education Minister Andre Gaum. - Victor Mecoamere
