David Baldacci has at last produced a tale with a cracking pace involving the Old Camel Club. The hero is Oliver Stone, aka John Carr, a veteran CIA agent and assassin.

Stone executes two high- ranking politicians who blighted his past with their cold decision to kill his young family. These were his seniors who called on his patriotism to kill for his country while they bleached his life of all human contact and love.

When he at last refused to obey their commands, they labelled him a traitor and set out to destroy him. He goes into hiding and discovers years later that his daughter is alive.

She had been adopted by his enemy who was childless. Tragically, his daughter is shot right before his eyes.

This book begins when Stone kills the men who destroyed his life. CIA agent John Knox is sent to track him down. Stone goes to New Orleans to hide among the construction crews rebuilding the city. But a chance encounter with a young man changes his plans.

After rescuing the youth, Stone sets off with him to his hometown.

He becomes embroiled in the local crime scene and discovers a huge drug syndicate that has made the little town prosperous.

The Old Camel Club, his old friends from Washington, comes to his rescue after a shootout with the local gang.
