Mpumalanga safety and security MEC Siphosezwe Masango has urged the police to exercise the utmost care when apprehending or dealing with suspects.

Masango was reacting to the incident where a suspect escaped from custody while the police were taking him from the Nelspruit correctional facility to Komatipoort court last week.

The suspect, Shadrack Ndzukula, was due to appear in court on three counts of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.

Masango said the laxity of some police officers could endanger the lives of innocent people.

He appealed to the police to rearrest the suspect as soon as possible.
