Thembi Nkosi had the audience enthralled yesterday at the Idols Top 9 performances at the Mosaiek Teatro in Fairlands, Johannesburg.
Nkosi, 19, is among the nine contestants who performed in front of 3000 fans to impress the judges before the cut tonight at 7.30pm.
Yesterday's show was titled Divas and Crooners and contestants had to perform the songs of music legends.
Nkosi performed Beyonce Knowles' Dangerously in Love.
Idols judge Dave Thompson said: " Thembi, I just love everything about you. I really hope you survive in this competition."
Mara Louw was left speechless and all she could say was "Bayethe". Gareth Cliff said Nkosi was "a package" and did well. For the first time Randal Abrahams agreed with the judges about Nkosi. Although Nkosi's performance was outstanding, her fate will be decided by the public who in the past have failed to make a black contestant an Idols winner.
Cameron Bruce performed Everything by Michael Buble and judges were impressed. Louw said Bruce had a " matured" voice, but Abrahams disagreed and said it wasn't his best performance.
Graeme Watkins's version of Frank Sinatra's My Way failed to capture the judges' interest.
Lendel Moonsamy should be grateful for surviving this far. H e has avoided the chop, thanks to his fans. Yesterday Thompson and Louw gave him the thumbs down.
Others who did well were Pixie Bennette, Daniel Baron, Jason Hartman, Lize Heerman and Sasha-Lee Davids.
