A 39-year-old traditional healer in Harding made a brief appearance at the local magistrate's court yesterday to face five counts of rape and four of sexual harassment of his children.

The identity of the man cannot be revealed to protect the victims, who are his biological daughters.

The man, who has two wives, was arrested on Tuesday after allegations of rape surfaced against him.

It is alleged that the man has been raping his children, aged between nine and 16, over a long period of time.

His arrest came after his nine-year-old daughter wrote a letter to her close friend at school, confiding in her that she has had enough of rape by her own father.

The friend then notified the girl's mother, who reported the matter to social workers.

During his court appearance yesterday, the man was not asked to plead and the case was postponed to March 25 for further investigations.

All the children have been taken to a place of safety pending the outcome of the case.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Marian Ridge Secondary School pupil accused of stabbing to death his classmate Andile Mbeje on Tuesday, is expected to appear in the Pinetown magistrate's court today.

The suspect is a Grade 12 pupil.

He was arrested on the same day of the incident.

He is accused of stabbing Mbeje three times with a knife after an argument on Tuesday morning.

The suspect was expected to appear in court yesterday, resulting in a contingent of journalists filling the court, only to be told the case would be heard today.
