West Rand police believe they have made a breakthrough after they arrested suspected ATM bombing gang members on the West Rand.

Members of the West Rand police emergency response service and the West Rand dog unit were patrolling the Magaliesburg area yesterday when they noticed a Volkswagen Polo entering the area from Krugersdorp.

The four occupants in the vehicle were arrested after the police searched the car.

Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst said: "The vehicle had a registration number allocated to another vehicle.

" During the search, the police found explosives in the car," she said.

"It is suspected that the men are responsible for ATM bombings on the West Rand.

"Intensive investigations are continuing," Ernst said.

She said that the last ATM bombing in Mogale City took place last weekend in Krugersdorp.

The four suspects have been charged with possession of explosives and they are expected to appear in the Magaliesburg magistrates' court today, Ernst said.
