US joins forces with North West

A delegation from the United States' South Africa Mission will visit North West tomorrow as part of their preparations for the Confederations Cup.

North West schools have adopted the United States in an initiative by the government and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to mobilise support for the Confederations Cup that takes place in South Africa from June 14 to 28.

Eight of the nine South African provinces adopted the eight countries taking part in the "Festival of Champions", with the ninth, KwaZulu-Natal adopting the African Union.

Led by United States consul general Andrew Passen, the delegation will visit three schools, starting at Itotleng Barolong Middle School at 9am and later Eletsa School.

At 1pm, they will travel to Redibone Middle School where Passion and his delegation will talk to them about sports in the US and donate gifts.

Redibone, Eletsa and Itotleng have also qualified to participate in the "Adopt a Nation" World Cup in May where all the nine provinces will battle it out.

The countries adopted for the May tournament are: Gauteng (Bafana Bafana), Eastern Cape (Spain), Free State (Italy), KwaZulu-Natal (African Union), Limpopo (New Zealand), Mpumalanga (Egypt), Northern Cape (Brazil), North West (United States), Western Cape (Iraq).
