Making most of Selope Thema Games

The Selope Thema Goodwill Games organisers have joined forces with the Gauteng government to enlighten residents in KwaThema about the 2010 World Cup.

The yearly development tournament, which caters for various sporting codes, takes place at KwaThema sports complex from March 28 to April 13.

Pule Malefane, coordinator of the event, said said they would use the tournament to mobilise support for both the Confederations Cup and World Cup.

"We appreciate the support from the Gauteng department of sports, arts, culture and recreation to use our event to enlighten our people about the two global competitions.

"People must also be given information about the countries participating in the Confederations Cup and we also urge them to go out there and buy tickets."

Malefane said World Cup ambassadors like Phil Masinga and Mark Fish, as well as another soccer legend, Teenage Dladla will also attend the games.

Besides soccer, the tournament also caters for boxing, netball and basketball for the disabled. The tournament will be launched with a memorial lecture on Thema at Tlomoha College on March 21.
