must win bout for Marali

Bongani Magasela

A clear-cut victory against Fahsai Sakkreenin on Saturday night is imperative for Zolani "Untouchable" Marali to live up to his tag of being the junior lightweight division's best-kept secret.

This is because this lanky left-handed fighter with power in both hands is touted by promoter Rodney Berman as the best junior lightweight fighter here.

Berman's sentiments are shared by many. They say Marali will eat both current IBF champion Cassius "Hitman" Baloyi and Malcolm "The Stone" Klassen alive.

Baloyi will defend against Klassen next month. The outcome of this local shoot out to be promoted by Branco Sports Production will cause movement in the ratings.

Marali is currently rated number12 while Mzonke "Rose of Khayelitsha" Fana occupies the fourth spot. So Marali will be in the mix, provided he delivers the goods.

First things first, say Berman, who warned that victory will not come easy against Sakkreenin.

He said the 27-year-old Thai fighter, the current IBF Pan Pacific featherweight titleholder, should give Marali a tough and tactical battle.

"It could go down to the wire," said Berman whose Golden Gloves promotion will present this fight at the 2500-seater venue. The entire tournament features six bouts, which will all bankrolled by Gree-Air Conditioners.

Twinkling star Hekkie "Hexecutioner" Budler and Charrit Mukondeleli will fight for the IBO Pan African junior flyweight vacant title while Jake Els and Zimbabwean Thamsanqa Dube will battle for the WBA Pan African heavyweight strap.

Jarred "The Storm" Lovett will host Anon Donradit from Thailand in a catchweight eight rounder with Jackson Chauke, a former Olympian, and Owethu "Octavius" Mbira, will appear in two four rounders.

Marali will make his debut under new management of trainer Colin Nathan and manager Brian Mitchell.

Marali, Budler, Lovett, Chauke and Mbira are all trained by Nathan. Els is with Harold Volbrecht while Mukondeleli from Limpopo is trained in Westbury by Benny Pailman, Peter Faver and Cliff Martins of Westside Boxing Academy.
