Jamie Moore, pictured, looked world class in knocking out Italian veteran Michele Piccirillo to claim the European light-middleweight crown in Wigan.

Salford's Moore, 30, hurt the 39-year-old Piccirillo with a body shot in the first round and floored him twice in the second with clubbing left hands.

Moore continued to pepper Piccirillo in round three, before knocking him out with a huge left to the body.

Moore, with 31 wins from 34 fights, will now have world title aspirations.

Southpaw Moore, ranked ninth by the WBC before the fight, had waited three years for his shot because of injury and boxing politics.

But the impressive nature of his win over Piccirillo, a former IBF welterweight champion who had only been beaten four times in 55 fights, will have propelled him onto the world stage. - BBC
