A monkey, which died mysteriously last week, was given a dignified send-off by members of the New Foundation Yedwala Lokuphila Zion Church at it owner's home in Umlazi yesterday.

The monkey, popularly known as "2pool" and as a right-hand man of traditional healer and priest Nhlanhla Cele, was buried in a shallow grave outside Cele's home.

Cele said 2pool died mysteriously after losing a lot of blood through his nose.

He said the monkey was kept at a funeral parlour in Durban until yesterday morning and he had paid R2970 for the storage.

"The mortuary van brought him home very early in the morning for the funeral service. I wanted to give him a dignified burial.

"He deserves it and had worked very hard and made a lot of money helping people with his healing powers," said Cele.

After a short church service attended by about 20 people, 2pool was taken outside the yard wrapped in a blanket and was buried.

Neighbours peeped through their windows to witness the unusual burial.

Cele said 2pool specialised in helping women who had problems keeping their partners and women desperate to get married.

"Some of the people that are here are 2pool' s clients."
