Banyana Banyana bounced back with a brilliant 2-0 win over Scotland on Saturday at the Eight Nations Championships held in Cyprus.

Banyana were stunned 6-0 by England in their opening match of the tournament on Thursday, and had to win this one to avoid a disgrace.

"The girls were brilliant. They showed they have a fighting spirit after the demoralising defeat. They played way above themselves against a physical and very strong Scotish team," said team manager Fran Hilton-Smith.

Ranked 58 in the world, Banyana are the lowest-ranked team at this tournament, and their victory was no mean feat - Scotland is ranked number 24.

Noko Matlou, pictured, broke the deadlock on the 75th minute after a Kylie Anne Louw assist and Hlengiwe Ngwane's penalty 10 minutes later sealed the match.

Banyana now go into their last group match against France tomorrow.

France and England drew their match 2-2.
