Ukhozi FM's marketing manager Mlamuli Nxele has resigned after serving the station for three years.

Nxele joined Ukhozi in 2006 and turned it into a money spinning station.

Nxele said yesterday: "It was not an easy decision to make to leave the station, but growth is important in life.

"I was not born as an Ukhozi marketer but to make different contributions in the society."

He said he had a pleasant time working for the station, which boasts a listenership of 4,6 million, with vibrant management and presenters.

"I'm happy that I played my part in the growth of the station. I have no regrets at all for having been part of Ukhozi FM. I believe it's time to move now," he said.

Nxele will be joining a Zulu newspaper as an executive manager in August. He said between April and August he would be working as consultant for the South African Traditional Music Award, travelling abroad .

Nxele contributed in changing the listeners' perceptions that the station was only focusing on the tastes of old people .

Ukhozi station manager Welcome Nzimade said losing Nxele was not an easy thing for the station.

"He knew what he was doing in the marketing department. But he worked with a team, so I believe that people he left behind will continue with our strategies," he said.
