Worsening his plight was that he, together with his unemployed mother, could not access the R1,2 million damages awarded them by the Road Accident Fund in 2006.

After three years of a legal wrangle, the Johannesburg High Court has appointed a curator to oversee the matter and tend to his needs.

The ruling may not wipe off the family's years of misery but will surely bring them welcome relief.

Newspapers like ours pride themselves on taking up the cudgels for the underdog to ensure there is always light at the end of the tunnel for them.
