Platinum tourney to set shining example

Organisers of the sixth edition of the Platinum Football Tournament in North West will use the event to mobilise support for the Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.

Innocent Sirovha, the tournament organiser, said the games will be played at Wonderkop Stadium in Marikana from May 16 to 31.

Sixty-four clubs will participate in the seniors category of this popular tournament, that will also be presented by Royal Bafokeng Sports Holdings.

The Rustenburg Municipality is also involved.

"It's a massive development tournament which has in the past two years attracted clubs from as far as Soweto, Ikageng and Hammanskraal," said Sirovha.

"Besides the seniors section, we will also have tournaments for the under-17s, women and masters so that everybody in the community is accommodated.

"We also have Platinum Stars working closely with us as the only professional soccer club in North West, it is a perfect platform for them to promote the club.

"We are negotiating with Stars to play a game with our invitation side.

"On the day, soccer legends will conduct clinics for the school children in our community."

Sirovha said they would also invite Irvin Khoza, the Local Organising Committee chairman, to be their guest of honour on the day of the final.
