umsobomvu fund sets education and career campaign in motion

Umsobomvu Youth Fund will set the volunteer Ambassadors for the Start Here Campaign Programme in gear.

The campaign, which was launched in December 2007, is aimed at providing youth with information on career and education opportunities, as well as to link them with opportunities such as learnerships and bursaries.

To make this happen, UYF has roped in artists like DK Pepsi, Chomee, actors and television personalities that will go on roadshows in schools, tertiary institutions and communities to educate young people about the importance of career guidance and inform them about some of the opportunities that they can access. The Ambassadors will be working on a voluntary basis under the auspices of the National Youth Service Programme, which encourages professionals to volunteer their services to their communities.

UYF has also deployed additional career guidance counsellors at UYF Youth Advisory Centres, whose services will be available for free to young people.

This edutainment initiative is centred around career planning and development, role modelling and entertainment.
