A fuming Ajax Cape Town coach Craig Rosslee feels that referee Peter Mabuza let them down and should be blamed for a blunder that resulted in Ajax losing 1-0 to Lamontville Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership game played at Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening.
Rosslee voiced his anger at Mabuza for not allowing what he called a legitimate goal by Sifiso Vilakazi in the 80th minute.
"The referee cost us the game tonight [Saturday]. That was a goal and there was nothing Vilakazi did to the Arrows keeper. He was not the right man for tonight's game but we have to start collecting points and improve on our performance," lamented Rosslee.
The Urban Warriors mentor got it all wrong because Mabuza took the right decision when he blew his whistle for a foul by Vilakazi and disallowed the goal.
Vilakazi's left knee caught the visitors' keeper, Helton da Rocha on the face as Da Rocha moved to collect the ball, resulting in him being taken off the field bleeding and with a suspected neck injury. He was replaced by Brendon Wardle.
"My guys are playing well and have started collecting points, which we need very badly. Our priority now is the next game," said an excited Manqoba Mngqithi, Arrows' coach.
"We will treat every game as it comes and my guys know that maximum points are all what we need."
From the onset, both sides were at each other's throats but their efforts came to nothing because of poor finishing.
The home side's pacey right-winger, Sameehg Doutie, saw his shot being blocked by Arrows' Siyabonga Sangweni in the 18th minute following a pass by Mabhuti Khenyeza.
Ajax's striker, Khenyeza, was not given space to move by his former teammates and was booked by Mabuza for remonstrating in the ninth minute.
The game was sealed in the 68th minute by Arrows midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi whose powerful shot left Ajax keeper Andre Petim stranded after a great pass from Richard Henyekane.
