Young athletes throughout the province will have another opportunity to sharpen their skills when they compete in Limpopo Athletics (Lima's) provincial junior and youth track and field championships at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The event will start at 8am tomorrow.

Athletes will be involved in track events ranging from 100m to 10 000m and hurdles.

In the field they will take part in high and long jump, triple jump, shotput, discus, hammer and javelin.

Kakata Maponyane, Lima's president said the event will serve as the final competition to select teams that will represent the federation at the national championships.

"The provincial championships are compulsory for all athletes who wish to be selected for teams to the national championships.

"Athletes who miss the provincial championships will be considered for selection at the sole discretion of Lima board." Maponyane said yesterday.

The selected team will represent Lima at the national youth and junior championships in Tshwane from March 27 to 29.

Meanwhile, pupils from the Waterberg district's independent schools will gather at Modimolle also tomorrow to select their athletics team for the provincial championship to be held on March 7.
