Top team for Cross Country Champs

South Africa will send a full-strength team to represent the country at the yearly Southern Region Cross Country Championships in Mauritius on Sunday.

South Africa will send a full-strength team to represent the country at the yearly Southern Region Cross Country Championships in Mauritius on Sunday.

Members of the team have been preparing for the event in the first four Yellow Pages Series meetings and judging by their performance, can bring home a large medal haul.

The Southern Region Championships also serves as the final trial for the selection of the South African team to the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Amman, Jordan, on March 28.

South Africa's onslaught in the senior men's race will be led by the experienced quartet of Stephen Mokoka, Tshamano Setone, Boy Soke and Jeffrey Gwebu and they will be hard to beat.

The Phalula twins, Lebo and Lebogang, Tebogo Masehla, Myrette Filmalter and Annerien van Schalkwyk will seek honours in the senior women's race.

Team:

Men - Boy Soke, Stephen Mokoka, Jeffrey Gwebu, Kgosi Tsosane, Xolisa Tyali, Lungile Gonqa, Nonkululeko Zamisa, Sibusiso Nzima, Tshamano Setone.

Women: Lebo Phalula, Lebogang Phalula, Tebogo Masehla, Takalani Nthulane, Myrette Filmater, Annerien van Schalkwyk.

Junior girls: Nandipha Dywili, Maxine Heine Wacker, Letitia Saayman, Zinhle Mtshali, Ashleigh Schnettler, Zinhle Sinqe, Anneke Gildenhuys.

Junior boys: Sithyilo Diko, Folavia Sehohle, Joel Monne, Vuyisile Tshoba, Senzo Nkosi, Mfumaneko Fadane, Windy Jonas, Samuel Setlelo. - Sapa
