The accident happened in the resort town of Park Rynie on KwaZulu-Natal's south coast yesterday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the car was hit while driving across the level crossing.
"The car was thrown about 100 metres and went down an embankment.
"The couple died on impact," Botha said. - Sapa
