South African Theatre gurus, Mbongeni Ngema and Duma Ndlovu, have teamed up to produce a potentially explosive theatre play called Sheila's Day.
Sheila's Day, a show about the traditional day off for domestic workers, is ear-marked to run for 10 days at the Market Theatre in Newtown. Opening on March 22, the show will be staged in partnership with The Crossroads Theatre Company of the US.
Premiered in New Jersey in 1990, the original show featured Letta Mbulu, Tu Nokwe and Thuli Dumakude.
Ngema, an internationally acclaimed playwright, said the show will be staged in Gauteng for the first time.
Ngema said the show came back a few years ago and was performed at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival where it got a positive response.
