Five years after Brenda Fassie died, her band intends to commemorate her life and music.
The eight-member band will stage a two-hour show on Saturday at the Lethabong Tavern at Morula Sun, Mabopane. Led by musician Mlamli Sellem, the group has promised to deliver a memorable performance.
Sellem, who hails from KwaLanga in Cape Town, said the aim was to celebrate the good times they had with Fassie.
He said as a group that worked with Fassie for more than 13 years, they know all her powerful songs by heart.
"Fassie was a talented individual. As a band we are looking forward to commemorate the late pop diva's life and music. When the Morula Sun approached us with the idea we were very excited. We believe she was a highly talented person and deserves to be remembered."
Sellem said his singing career was polished and nurtured by Fassie herself. He said Fassie, who was regarded as the "Madonna of Mzansi", taught him the ins and outs of the music industry.
" I am what I am today because of her and I will never forget that," he said.
