The family of a Mpumalanga man who was allegedly shot dead by his foremer girlfriend is angry after the Witbank magistrate's court granted her bail.
Constable Margaret Mashiane, 25, allegedly shot Duis Rampedi, 30, with a service pistol after chasing him with a police vehicle for several kilometres in Witbank.
Police say Mashiane was charged with murder but released on R3000 bail on Wednesday.
The case was postponed to April 9 for further investigations. Police spokesperson Sergeant Jabu Nkabinde said Mashiane was on duty when she allegedly saw her ex-boyfriend with another woman last Tuesday night.
"She allegedly drove a police car into the back of her former boyfriend's vehicle. He lost control of the car and it crashed into a wall in Vosman Street, Witbank.
"She then walked up to the man and allegedly shot him twice in the chest.
"She took him to Cosmos Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival," said Nkabinde
The dead man's young brother, Johannes Rampedi, said his brother had separated from Mashiane about a year ago because she was abusive.
He said his brother had lived in fear of the woman since their break-up.
"He had a protection order against her and had once opened a case of malicious damage to property against her for damaging his car.
"We are not happy with the court's decision but there is nothing we can do.
"My brother died a painful death but her attacker is enjoying life," complained Rampedi.
