ANC Youth League president Julius Malema visited his former school, Prudence Secondary School in Tladi, Soweto, where he encouraged pupils to dedicate themselves to school work.

Malema told the pupils: "The primary task that you need to understand and appreciate when you enter the gates of the school is that you came here because you want to change your family. You came here because you want to change who you are, so that you can be recognised as a better person in society."

Malema said the school received a 91percent pass rate in last year's matric results because its teachers "were caring and dedicated and did not sleep with learners".

Malema also visited early childhood development centres in Soweto and Tembisa.

Speaking at the Entokozweni Early Childhood Centre in Moletsane, Soweto, which is under threat of closure, Malema pledged to fight to keep the 35-year-old centre open.
