The DA is pulling out all stops to ensure that ANC leaders in the Gauteng government face the full might of the law for allegedly mishandling the case of disgraced former ANC spokesman Carl Niehaus.
Last week Niehaus confessed that he had forged signatures of Gauteng government officials while he was head of the Gauteng Economic Development Agency in 2005, to try and secure a loan from Blue Label.
He told Mail & Guardian that he subsequently confessed to Mashatile - who was then the MEC for finance and economic affairs.
Yesterday DA Gauteng leader Jack Bloom laid a charge against Mashatile in terms of section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act - which makes it an offence not to report a corrupt act to police, as well as section 20 as an accessory after an offence.
Bloom has also called on the police to investigate the whole Gauteng 2005 executive council, including former premier Mbhazima Shilowa.
"Specifically mentioned for investigation are the three MECs whose signatures were forged - Ignatius Jacobs, Angie Motshekga and Khabisi Mosunkutu - since it is difficult to believe they were not informed about this," said Bloom.
The ANC has accused DA of electioneering.
