South Africa should take a firm stand on the IFP and stop this madness of violation of human rights. All political parties have condemned what happened in Nongoma and have asked the leaders of both parties to teach their members political tolerance.
Only Bantu Holomisa of the former Transkei bantustan was irrational in his comments, as usual. He allowed his reasoning to escape the events in Bloemfontein on December 16 2008 and last month in Port Elizabeth where the ANC and Cope held rallies without displaying IFP behaviour. Anyone listening to him is wasting their time. I feel sorry for UDM members.
Nevertheless, the SAPS must investigate the Nongoma violence without fear or favour.
The IFP should accept that the Nongoma area is not an island or a volkstaat. Its leaders must inculcate political education in its members.
They must accept that the ANC is making serious inroads into its stronghold. The IFP must defend its support base by embarking on democratic campaigns and not be barbaric and assault innocent citizens.
