So the TV secret is out. Sifiso Nene has been declared the funniest man in the country by romping home with the closely contested title of SABC1 show, SoYou Think You are Funny.
The emerging comedian walked away with the prestigious prize on Tuesday night as the show came up with the long-awaited verdict.
Nene did not only get the bragging rights as Mzansi's funniest man, but is also R100000 richer.
The funnyman is understandably over the moon about this triumph.
"I'm very excited to have won. It's a dream come true. I'm also looking forward to working with David Kau."
Nene won the contest after fending off fierce competition from Thabang Manyelo, Tsietsi Matlakala and Mdu Mazibuko.
A firm crowd favourite from the beginning, Nene has never been in the eliminination round since the show started.
Maziibuko was brought back as a wildcard but failed to impress as he was eliminated along with Manyelo after the first round.
This left Nene and Matlakala to slug it out in the final leg where the audience's favourite, Nene, emerged victorious.
One of the judges and prime ambassador of the show, Kau, is equally excited as they (the judges) are confident that they have found their man for the show's first season in Nene.
"Besides being funny, I reckon he is ready for the big time," said Kau.
The other judges, actress Moshidi Motshegwa and comedian Ntobeko Madlingozi, also believe the audience made the right choice.
So You Think You're Funny, which was sponsored by Fanta, was not only aimed at bringing laughter to South Africans but also to provide a springboard for amateur comedians across the country to launch their careers.
