Healthy diet will help to fight cancer

An active lifestyle and a nutritious diet from a young age are essential to maintain a healthy weight and prevent cancer, the Cancer Association of South Africa has advised.

An active lifestyle and a nutritious diet from a young age are essential to maintain a healthy weight and prevent cancer, the Cancer Association of South Africa has advised.

In recognition of World Cancer Day today, Cansa has advised parents to pack healthy lunch boxes for their children and to encourage physical activity to reduce the risk of getting cancer in their adult life.

"Because being overweight or obese can lead to cancer, children should be encouraged to balance food and drink choices with physical activity," says executive director Sue Janse van Rensburg.

Cansa spokesman Martha Molete says a diet low in fat, rich in fibre, fruit and vegetables is essential. - Namhla Tshisela
