Confed Cup goes to jail

The prison version of the Confederations Cup, staged by Safa Soweto, will take place at Diepkloof Prison, also known as Sun City, in April.

The prison version of the Confederations Cup, staged by Safa Soweto, will take place at Diepkloof Prison, also known as Sun City, in April.

"The aim is to assist the Local Organising Committee in making the Confederations Cup a roaring success," said Phil "Chippa" Mogodi, Safa Soweto boss.

"We want to reach out to everybody, we have been using almost all our soccer activities to promote the tournament amongst the Sowetans."

"It [the tournament] will be played over two weeks, just like the real Confederations Cup with eight clubs at the prison taking part in the competition.

"The eight clubs will adopt the names of the countries who will be taking part in the real Confederations Cup here in South Africa in June."

Mogodi said most of the embassies of the participating nations were keen to be part of the Sun City event.
