Johannes Kekana, Coolboy Ngamola and Dimakatso Menong are among the athletes who carry the hopes of Central Gauteng Athletics at the Nedbank City Marathon in Durban on Sunday.

The trio are among 34 athletes in the star-studded CGA team that the province's general manager Mandla Radebe is confident will win medals in the race that carries more than R1 million prize money.

Durban will be a hive of athletics activities this weekend because Athletics South Africa will also stage the third leg of the Yellow Pages Series in the city on Friday.

Both events will be staged at Kings Park Stadium. The marathon will start at 5.30am and the series at 5pm.

"We are taking the cream of our province and we are all confident that they will make us proud in Durban," Radebe said.

"I think the preparations they made will pull them through, though it will not be easy as other provinces will send their star performers to this race."

Kekana and his teammates will be tested by the likes of Bethuel Netshifhefhe, Enos Matalane and Aaron Gabonewe. Gloria Baeba, Tannith Maxwell and Riana van Niekerk have the ability to outrun Eunice Nhlapo, who is among CGA's medal hopefuls in the women's section.

There has been a good turnout at the past two legs of the series and ASA is positive it will be the same in Durban this weekend.
