LONDON - Liverpool reached agreement with Tottenham to sell striker Robbie Keane back to the north London club on the final day of the transfer window yesterday.
No fee has yet been announced, but BBC Sport understands Spurs made a cash-only offer in the region of £15million (about R225million).
Keane, 28, joined Liverpool from Tottenham in July for £20,3million (R305million) but failed to establish himself in the first team.
The Republic of Ireland captain managed just five goals in 19 appearances for the club he supported as a boy.
Another potential last-minute deal was Russia playmaker Andrei Arshavin's transfer from Zenit St Petersburg to Arsenal.
Sky Sports News showed pictures of Arshavin at a snow-bound hotel north of London after reporting he had flown in by private jet to avoid possible flight cancellations caused by the heaviest snow in southern England for almost 20 years.
But that deal seemed on the brink of collapse later over the player's wage demands.
Meanwhile England's top-flight clubs were yesterday granted a conditional extension to the transfer window deadline, the Premier League said in a statement.
Three hours before the 5pm deadline the Premier League said that in view of extreme weather conditions disrupting travel, the board would grant extensions to clubs sending an e-mail confirming "that a deal has been agreed in principle".
