The sky is no longer the limit for television actor Hlomla Dandala, who has just joined e.tv's soapie Scandal as a director.

Dandala, who recently directed a film called Swop that was released in November, is a Jack of all trades. An actor and presenter of note, Dandala is the latest superstar to join the fast-growing soapie.

He told Sowetan that his first episode was flighted on January 26 and it was a good feeling.

Dandala said joining Scandal as a director was a sign of growth in his career.

"I am happy to have joined Scandal as a director, though I have been directing for almost 10 years now. However, it is always a challenge to direct a well-established show like Scandal. "

Asked if he planned to move to directing full-time, Dandala said: "I am still very much an actor but at the moment I am taking a break. I will never stop acting."

He recently acted in Jacob's Cross on MNet and SABC2's Land of Thirst.

Dandala, who has been shouting directorial instructions for a while, has directed some episodes in Generations, Gaz'lam, Hard Copy and Backstage.

He made his name in the acting industry as Derek Nyathi in Isidingo and has never looked back.

He has also acted in Tsha Tsha, Interrogation Room, Gaz'lam and Safari, which aired on Discovery Kids and NBC, Zero Tolerance, Jozi-H, Fools, Red Dust and Lord Of War.
