Allow me to enter the fray by alluding to a few facts to prove that the ANC has stood the test of time and in my view will continue to do so.
Firstly, it was the ANC that led the struggle against the evil apartheid system by mobilising all South Africans. It was also the ANC that initiated and led the real Congress of the People that brought about the Freedom Charter. And it was also the ANC that set in motion negotiations with the National Party.
The ANC won the first democratic elections despite all odds, such as the death of our leader comrade Chris Hani, the continued detention of some of our leaders and the unfair manner in which the Nats and its allies wanted the negotiations to go.
The ANC has coped with sabotage, mudslinging and character assassinations. In my view there is nothing different now. The ANC will continue to prove to its detractors, whoever they are and wherever they are, that it remains the best party. The most recent example are the recent by-elections in the four provinces. Cope was and will continue to be embarrassed.
The ANC will cope in the forthcoming elections, but it will take Cope many years to cope. Unfortunately for Cope, that time won't come for as long as the ANC is around.
