Louis "LJ" van Zyl will compete in his specialist event, the 400m hurdles, in the third leg of the Yellow Pages Series this weekend after his triumph in Tshwane on Friday night.
The 23-year-old Olympian won the 400m event, clocking 45,82 seconds for an IAAF B-standard victory in the event he used to build up his speed.
He is hoping to secure an IAAF A-standard time to qualify for the World Championships in Berlin, Germany, in August.
The series serves as the championships qualifier and athletes who will get A-standard times in the event will secure tickets to Berlin.
Long jumper Khotso "Crocodile" Mokoena and javelin thrower Sunette Viljoen are the only athletes who have qualified for the world event, so far, following their successes in Potchesfroom.
The third edition of the six-leg series is billed for Durban on Friday night.
"I'm looking forward to Durban and I'm going there with my confidence high after my success in Pretoria," said Van Zyl, who finished fifth in his specialist event at the Beijing Olympics in August.
"I will also take part in Port Elizabeth [on February 20]. I'm hoping to make it to the world championships this year after I got a B-standard last year.
"It is still early in the year, and I have enough time to qualify for Berlin," he said.
Stephen Mokoka won the 3000m in a time of 8min:04sec and he is also ready for Durban.
Olympian Tsholofelo Thipe won the 100 and 200 in the women's section, clocking 11,48 in the 100 and 53,27 in the 200.
