Cope must tell no lies, claim no easy victory

Wise words once uttered by one of the finest African revolutionaries, Amilcar Cabral, "tell no lies, claim no easy victory" are still relevant today. They are even more relevant, with the emergence of Congress of the People.

In his contribution on an election debate programme on SABC recently, Onkgopotse Tabane made some startling statements about our country under the ANC.

When ANC delegates decided against a third presidential term for Thabo Mbeki, its proponents decided to leave and form Cope. This plan was conceived barely two weeks after Polokwane.

With regard to the claim that delegates went to Polokwane to discuss the dissolution of the Scorpions, Tabane broke every rule of fair engagement.

Fortunately, the ANC has made records of discussions in Polokwane public on their website and numerous documents. Pro-poor policies were given priority only after the Polokwane conference. This is to build on the work that government has done in the past 15 years.

Cope is leading the country astray with their views on affirmative action, which goes against transformation.

Parties like Cope will only survive where there is ignorance. Just like the DA, Cope spends a lot of time telling the electorate what the ANC can or can't do instead of what they offer. This strategy is likely to backfire. You can't exist without offering solutions.
