Though many Absa Premiership teams have taken full advantage of the January window period to bolster their squads, a traditional late rush could not be ruled out before the 5pm deadline today.

The same is expected for the National First Division clubs as they want reinforcements for different reasons.

Moroka Swallows have signed Cheemon Peterson, who is the son of their former deadly forward Calvin Peterson.

Cheemon, like his father a striker, has signed a contract for two-and-a-half seasons with Swallows from Durban-based Vodocom team Brazil FC.

The Beautiful Birds have also promoted left-back Keegan Richie and central defenders Thatho Ferland and Kagiso Mashishi from their development team. They are likely to sign another defender, Sydney Plaatjies from Mamelodi Sundowns before the deadline.

James Mayinga has been released from the Birds and is going in the opposite direction to Chloorkop.

Orlando Pirates will welcome new team member Zvenyika Makonese to training today after the Zimbabwean defender signed for the Buccaneers.

"Makonese is our player and I believe he will add value at the back," said Bucs coach Rudi Krol after their match against Bay United on Saturday night.

Makonese's arrival could come as consolation after Pirates failed to capture Bafana Bafana's defensive midfielder Lance Davids, who was snatched by Premiership champions SuperSport United.

Platinum Stars finally grabbed scandalous defender Mbulelo "OJ" Mabizela from Sundowns, who have also let Dillion Shephard go to the Tycoons. But The Brazilians have a king-size headache on how to deal with Lerato Chabangu's situation.

Chabangu has been courted by Thanda Royal Zulu, but is not keen to relocate to KwaZulu-Natal or to join Bay United in Eastern Cape.

"We will see if we can get him a deal before the deadline today," said Mahlatse Mphahlele.

Chabangu has signed a pre-season contract with Matsatsantsa and Downs were hoping to release him early to their cross-town rivals, but the teams failed to reach an agreement after Downs are said to have demanded more money for the player.

The Brazilians have also lost winger Josta Dladla to Kaizer Chiefs, with Thuso Phala heading in the opposite direction.
